Placing An Order -

Do I need to visit a tailor before ordering online?

You do NOT need to visit a tailor before ordering. Based off the information you probably already know like your height, weight, jacket size and pant size, we will be able to convert them into Blank Label custom sizes. If you are keen to get out the measuring tape, we do have video and pictorial instructions in the sizing section of ordering.

What sizes do I need to know before ordering?

Our goal is for you to experience full bespoke sizing without needing to visit a tailor. If you know your height, weight, jacket size, pant size we will be able to convert them into Blank Label custom sizes. If you are keen to get out the measuring tape, we do have video and pictorial instructions in the sizing section of ordering.

Can I order a set of fabric swatches before ordering a shirt?

Yes, we do sell a stock set of swatches our tailors have assembled (composed of some of our recent best selling fabrics). These can be added to your cart at the bottom of this page.

How do you charge the same price for full bespoke as my off-the-rack shirts?

We take what you’re paying now for a store, a salesman, a middle-man, and invest it in your shirt. By not working with any licensing companies, multi-level sales people and big box distributors, we’re able to take out several markups and pass the savings onto you.

What kind of fabrics do you have on the site?

All the fabrics on our site are 100% cotton. Our house cotton is sourced from China, at the same mills most name brands use. We also have limited imported cottons from Como, Italy, and Honshu, Japan. Each fabric is also marked with a thread count and a GSM weight (grams per square meter).

When are new shirts and fabrics going to be added to the site?

Typically we add new shirts to our Collection, and new fabrics to our site every six weeks. We carry shirts and fabrics until they sell out, which can be anywhere from two weeks to four months. We notify our customers of new shirts and fabrics via an email newsletter sent out 1-2 times a month.

What is the difference between “Customize My Own” and “Shop Latest Collection”?

While some customers prefer to oversee the style details of the entire shirt, we understand that sometimes our customers prefer to buy a custom-fitting shirt that has already been pre-styled. Our Latest Collection is the place to find our most recent pre-styled shirts. For these shirts, the design details are set, and all you need to do is select your sizing, (add an optional monogram) and Add to Cart.

Can I Shop by Collection and then make customizations to the shirt?

Yes, you can browse the latest Collection and from the shirt style you like, scroll down to the “Customize Style” button to make style changes to the shirt you’ve chosen.

I’m having trouble navigating the site, what can I do?

Sorry you’re having issues with our site. First, we’d recommend clearing your cache and doing a refresh of the site. If that doesn’t work, please give us a call on 781.583.1688 Mon-Fri 10-6 ET or send us an email to sayhi@blanklabel.com and we’ll be happy to help.

Do I need to create an account to order?

You do not need to create an account, although we would highly recommend creating one after you order. On your order confirmation page after you’ve ordered, there will be an opportunity to create an account which will capture your latest order and sizes. This way you will be able to easily re-order, update your saved sizes, or process a return if needed.

How do I redeem my gift certificate?

When you have added your order to the Shopping Cart, in the middle lower half of the page, there is an option for ‘use a gift certificate’. Click that, enter the gift # and the pin, then click apply. This will remove the gift amount from your order total. You can use a gift certificate amount over multiple purchases.

How do I change or cancel my order?

Our tailors begin stitching within 12 hours of your order being placed. To make a change or cancel an order before your shirt enters the stitching phase, please email us at sayhi@blanklabel.com with your order amendment or cancellation request.

Custom Sizing -

Do I need to visit a tailor before ordering online?

You do NOT need to visit a tailor before ordering. Based off information you probably already know like your height, weight, (jacket size) and pant size, we should be able to get you off to a good start. If you are keen to get out the measuring tape, we do have video and pictorial instructions in the sizing section of ordering.

What sizes do I need to know before ordering?

Our goal is for you to experience full bespoke sizing without needing to visit a tailor. If you know your height, weight, jacket size, pant size we should be able to get you off to a good start. If you are keen to get out the measuring tape, we do have video and pictorial instructions in the sizing section of ordering.

What measurements do you work off for my custom shirt?

Our shirts are based on 6 measurements: Collar Size, Sleeve Length, Chest Width, Midsection Width, Shoulder Width, Shirt Length. These measurements are based on shirt measurements, as seen here, and NOT body measurements. We find using shirt measurements as the parameter to be more accurate as there is less room for interpretation vs body measurements.

Should I choose "Don't Know Sizes" or "Know My Sizes"?

If you've ordered from us before, there will be a record of your past sizes in the Order History of your Account - please choose Know My Sizes. If your previous order worked well, or you want to make a slight adjustment, (e.g., the sleeves need to be an inch shorter, the Chest should be half an inch bigger) please work off the measurements in your Order History as a base. If they do not look right, please let us know and we can confirm with you.

If you are new to Blank Label, please choose Don't Know Sizes. From there we recommend choosing the Ask Our Tailors option. If you do already have a shirt that fits well, you're welcome to measure it (instructions are provided), or send it in for us to measure it (free with a postage-paid envelope).

If I choose "Don't Know Sizes", should I then choose "Ask Our Tailors", "Measure Your Best Fitting Shirt" or "Send Us A Shirt"?

We recommend choosing the Ask Our Tailors option. It will ask you for information you already know like your height, weight, pant size, etc. From there our Pattern Maker will work out your exact shirt measurements which will then be stored in your account. If you have a shirt that fits well and want to replicate that sizing, you're welcome to measure it (instructions are provided), or send it in for us to measure it (free with a postage-paid envelope).

I chose the Send Us A Shirt option, now what happens?

Once your Send Us A Shirt order has been received, we will mail you out a postage-paid envelope. Simply place your shirt in the envelope and mail it back. From there, we will measure the shirt, send the measurements to our Pattern Maker, and mail you back the shirt. We do not begin construction on your custom Blank Label shirt until we receive and have measured your existing shirt.

I have an issue with most shirt arm holes, can I enter a custom measurement for that?

Our Pattern Maker cuts the arm holes of each shirt to be proportional to the rest of the shirt, based on the other dimensions for the order. However, if you would prefer to specify a different Arm Hole Width, please measure the Arm Hole Width of a shirt you own that fits well, and let us know the width (not circumference) that you would like us to use for the Arm Hole Width. Here are a few pictorials, image 1, image 2, image 3.

I have measurements from a tailor, can I use those?

For each order we require sizing to be entered through one of our custom sizing options online. In addition, if you would like to provide measurements from your tailor, we can definitely include those on the order for our Pattern Maker.

I like to wear a watch, can I have a custom cuff size?

Our Pattern Maker cuts the cuff of each shirt to be proportional to the rest of the shirt, based on the other dimensions for the order. However, if you would prefer to specify a different Cuff Width, please measure the Cuff Width of a shirt you own that fits well, and let us know the width (not circumference) that you would like us to use for the Cuff Width. Here is a pictorial.

(Please note that for Regular (single and double button cuffs) we measure across the full width of the cuff. But for French cuffs we measure from the middle of the button hole to the opposite edge.)Here is a pictorial.

What is the returns policy if it doesn't fit?

Even though every single shirt we make is custom made just for you, we understand custom sizing can be a challenge, so if your first shirt doesn't fit, we'll remake a new one for you from scratch - and we donate the old one to charity. Even better, domestic and international return shipping is free.

Care -

The shirt has arrived, what are the care instructions?

1. Turn the shirt inside out before placing the shirt in the washing machine.
2. All shirts, non-iron and regular cotton can be machine washed. Please do so on a cold to luke warm setting, and preferably on gentle or delicate cycle. All our fabrics are pre-shrunk so shrinkage should be not an issue. We would recommend, if possible, to only have other dress shirts, or a light load, when washing your shirts. An excessively full washing load with other coarser materials can cause early shirt pilling.
3. Hang dry your shirts. Tumble dry, even on low, can lead to shrinkage and damage finer fabrics. Button the top button whilst drying will help retain the shape and if you invest in thicker wooden hangers, it will help the shirt retain its shape better.
4. Optional - Hand press with a warm iron when it is slightly damp, that will make the task a little easier.
5) Optional - Every two months take a tooth brush loaded with detergent to gently scrub the collar to remove ring around the collar.

Do my shirts need to be taken to the dry cleaner?

They do not need to be taken to a dry cleaner, in fact dry cleaning is not as suitable for the type of wear with perspiration and oils as laundering. We recommend laundering and hang dry.

Pricing and Payments -

How much do the dress shirts typically cost?

Shirts start from $70 and go up to $145. Shirt costs vary based on the fabric. Generally the higher thread count fabric, the finer the feel of the cloth and the more expensive the shirt. We do not charge extra for any customizations, including monogramming. Standard shipping is also free.

Is there a minimum purchase?

There are no minimums, we would actually recommend starting with one shirt to see how you like the fit.

How do you charge the same price for full bespoke as my off-the-rack shirts?

We take what you're paying now for a store, a salesman, a middle-man, and invest it in your shirt. By not working with any licensing companies, multi-level sales people and big box distributors, we're able to take out several markups and pass the savings onto you.

How do I redeem my gift certificate?

I am at the checkout but the site is not accepting my credit card, what can I do?

There's nothing worse than trying to give a company money and them not taking it. We've captured your order but can't confirm the card number. In instances like this, we can send you a link to check out via Paypal, you do not need to create an account - it's just like checking out on our site without recreating the order again. Please give us a call on 781.583.1688 Mon-Fri 10-6 ET or send us an email to sayhi@blanklabel.com and we'll be happy to help.

Shirt Features -

What is a collar lining?

For a slightly more casual and distinct look, a collar lining is a complementing fabric that runs along the inside of the collar. Given it is mostly covered by your neck, it's a very subtle feature, but still something likely to receive compliments.

Can I get a lining on my French Cuff?

A cuff lining runs on the inside of the cuff. On a single button cuff, or a double barrel cuff, the lining touches the wrist. You can get a lining on your French cuff however the lining is in the fold, meaning it is not very visible when worn, and does not touch the inside of the wrist.

What is a contrast placket?

The placket is the part of the shirt that affixes the buttons, the middle strip running down the front of your shirt. As a bold statement, you can add a complementary fabric to contrast the rest of your shirt. If you're looking for a more subtle placket lining, which runs on the inside rather than the outside of the placket, please email us at sayhi@blanklabel.com after your order and we'll manually add it to your order.

What is the difference between a monogram and a label?

We have embroidery at five points of the shirt. You can have a four letter monograms at the collar point, the left cuff, and the pocket (or chest with the absence of a pocket), such as your initials. You can have a longer 13 letter embroidered label on the inside of the collar and at the base of the placket, such as your name.

Can I have embroidery on multiple parts of the shirt?

We have embroidery at five points of the shirt. You can have monograms at the collar point, the left cuff, and the pocket (or chest with the absence of a pocket). You can have a longer embroidered label on the inside of the collar and at the base of the placket. It might be a little busy to have all five areas embroidered; the cuff monogram and collar label positions are the most popular.

Can I request a specific collar height?

If you have a shorter or longer neck, we can do custom collar heights (the height at the back of the collar band). Please email us at sayhi@blanklabel.com after your order and we'll manually add it to your order.

Can I request style features that are not on the website?

On request, we can do inner placket linings, double button collars and cutaway collars. Please email us at sayhi@blanklabel.com after your order and we'll manually add it to your order.

If you have other requests, please send us an email and we'll confirm with our Pattern Maker and Tailors.

Do my shirts come with pleating or darts, can they be requested?

All our shirts come with a clean back so no pleating or darts for a clean finish. In some cases if you have very wide shoulders our tailors might use their judgement to add side pleats on the upper back. Or in cases of a very narrow waist to your chest, we might add darts to the lower back. But adding pleats or darts are quite rare. If you would like us to add side pleats, box pleating or darts, that's absolutely something we can do. Please email us at sayhi@blanklabel.com after your order and we'll manually add it to your order.

Returns -

What is the returns policy if it doesn't fit?

We are sorry the shirt did not fit right the first time around. We are excited to work with you again to get it right. If our Pattern Maker or tailors made a mistake during the hand-cutting or hand-stitching, we'd be happy to remake your order. You don't even need to return them, we just ask if you'd please take a photo of the measurement we made incorrectly so we can just double check we're on the same page.

The shirt fits but one of my shirt style details are missing, what can I do?

We are sorry we didn't get the finishing right the first time around. Attention to detail is generally something we pride ourselves on. We are excited to work with you again to get it right. If our Pattern Maker or tailors made a mistake during the hand-cutting or hand-stitching, we'd be happy to remake your order. The shirt fits well but the arm hole isn't quite right, can I customize that on my next order?

We certainly can! Our tailors cut the arm hole opening of each shirt to be proportional to the rest of the shirt, based on the other dimensions for the order. However, if you would prefer to specify a different Arm Hole opening, please measure the Arm Hole opening of a shirt you own that fits well, and let us know the width (not circumference) that you would like us to use for the Arm Hole opening. Here are a few pictorials, image 1, image 2, image 3.

The shirt fits well but the cuff isn't quite right, can I customize that on my next order?

We are definitely able to give you a custom Cuff Width. Our tailors cut the cuff opening of each shirt to be proportional to the rest of the shirt. If you would prefer to specify a different Cuff Width, please measure the Cuff Width of a shirt you own that fits well, and let us know the width (not circumference) that you would like us to use for the Cuff Width. Here is a pictorial.

(Please note that for Regular (single and double button cuffs) we measure across the full width of the cuff. But for French cuffs we measure from the middle of the button hole to the opposite edge.) Here is a pictorial.

How long does my remake take?

As soon as the sizing or changes are confirmed, the order will restart and be expedited to arrive within in two weeks. We understanding waiting for a remake can be a tiresome experience, however we are making a brand new shirt from scratch and two weeks is the quickest turnaround we can do with the care we need to take.

How many remakes can I get?

We only offer a single free remake on your first order. Because all our shirts are hand-made just for you, and our returns go to charity, we obviously can't do an unlimited exchange policy. We will do our best to help you get the right fit on your first order, including doing a free remake, but we would really ask you to be careful when requesting your remake and re-ordering to make sure you have the correct sizes. We are always here to help if you're unsure or need suggestions.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes, we do offer gift certificates. We have 2 options for gift certificates: E-Gift Card and Physical Gift Card (United States only). The E-Card is mailed instantly to the recipient. The Physical Gift Card takes 5 days to arrive. Both can be ordered here.
